State legislatures around the country have made little progress in diversifying their ranks during the last decade, with many states losing ground in boosting the representation of people of color and white women. California, for has a state population that is 63% nonwhite, but is only represented by 46% nonwhite state legislators, increasing only 7% since 2015. Women represent 31% of the CA state legislature, increasing just 5% since 2015.
