On Monday the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Janus vs. AFSCME case that will decide if unions can compel non-members to pay an “agency fee” that covers union activities, excluding political action.  As Ludovic and Jim Araby (executive director of UFCW Western States Council, a key CDT labor ally) argued in a paper last year, unions are critical to the social justice movement, so the anticipated Supreme Court decision against AFSCME will threaten our work and hit women and people of color the hardest.  This is all by the design of the Right — including powerful, conservative donors — who have been seeking to dilute the power of unions and Democrats for decades.
